The treatment takes about 30 minutes. A topical anesthetic is applied thirty minutes prior to treatment. The area is clean and a paper grid is applied to the skin. A tiny needle is then used to inject Kybella into the treatment area. Burning tingling may occur for 5 to 10 minutes after the injection treatment, therefore, ice is applied to the area unlike the sensation subsides.

Puffiness and tenderness may occur for a few weeks after the treatment. Treatments are done every six to eight weeks until the desired effect is achieved. Most patients see their desired visible results in 2 to 3 treatments. Once the desired aesthetic response is achieved, re-treatment is not expected.
