Laern more about IPL & LED Therapy

Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a non-invasive treatment used by medical practitioners to perform treatments for aesthetic and therapeutic purposes. It can be used on any part of the body. It is similar to laser treatment but a laser focuses on just one wavelength of light while IPL releases light flashes of many different wavelengths. The light from IPL is less focused than a laser. IPL penetrates down to the second layer of your skin (dermis) without harming the top layer (epidermis), so it causes less damage to your skin than a laser.

IPL Clinical Indications Include:

  • Hair Removal
  • Spider Veins
  • Improved skin texture & Fine Lines
  • Photorejuvenation
  • Treatment of Rosacea
  • Reverse Sun Damage
  • Age Spots
  • Freckles
  • Acne
  • Irregular Pigmentation
  • Uneven skin tone

IPL skin therapy allows safe treatment on a considerably wider range of skin types. By controlling the pulses, the delivery light energy can be more efficiently directed to the treatment site with minimal heating of surrounding tissue. IPL makes it possible to treat previously untreatable darker skin types.

Skin Rejuvenation

IPL works by penetrating the dermis and stimulating the growth of new skin cells and collagen formation. It helps fine lines and wrinkles while tightening the skin. IPL helps skin discoloration and uneven skin tone. Pigment cells in the skin absorb the light energy, which is converted into heat. The heat destroys the unwanted pigment to clear up freckles, rosacea, and other spots. There is no downtime after the treatment, unlike laser treatments. A series of 4 to 6 treatments spaced 6 weeks apart are recommended for best results.

IPL Hair Removal

  • IPL destroys  the hair follicle so that hair does not regrow
  • An ideal combination of very light skin and very pigmented hair (easiest patient)
  • Skin types I to III (Fitzpatrick Classification) have a lower skin melanin content, resulting in fewer pigmentation changes
  • Types IV and V are more challenging (higher incidence of post-treatment pigment changes)

Anesthesia

  • No pain medication is needed
  • Our IPL cooling system cools the skin to reduce the sensation

Timing of Hair Removal Treatments

  • The treatment should be timed so that the largest number of hairs are in the anagen phase (duration of telogen phase varies in body regions)
  • Sufficient time elapses for progression to the anagen phase (treatment spacing)
    – Head: 1 month
    – Trunk and extremities: 2 months

Number of Treatments

  • Treatments are continued until reasonable hair count is reduced
  • Two to six sessions
(with the appropriate time between treatments)

Side effects and complications

  • A sunburn-like sensation that typically disappears without treatment in 2 to 3 hours after the treatment
  • Some erythema and minor edema can persist for 2 to 3 days after treatment in the face and up to 7 days in the trunk
  • Hyper-pigmentation the most common side effect usually resolves in 6 months without treatment
  • An expected subsequent reaction usually visible in 3 to 5 minutes (hyperemia and focal swelling around each follicle)
  • If this reaction does not occur, the fluency can be increased
  • If the hair is very thin or light in color, there can be a minimal reaction, even at the highest settings
  • The reaction can occur from surface melanocytes if sufficient cooling is not present

IPL Spider Vein Treatments

IPL is very effective for spider vein. This treatment is painless and does not involve the injection of veins, unlike sclerotherapy. There is no downtime or bruising from the treatments. A series of 4 to 6 treatments are required to see results.*

*Individual results may vary

LED Light Therapy

LED light therapy is a painless treatment that emits light at specific wavelengths and frequencies to penetrate the skin. Each light color targets specific cells and treats specific problems. LED light works by stimulating blood flow and collagen production, decreasing inflammation, reducing discoloration, and skin cell regeneration and collagen production. LED wavelength treatment includes red, blue, green, yellow, and white light to treat various skin conditions. Red light LED stimulates the production of collagen by fibroblasts which lead to younger-looking skin. LED can help reduce fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, stretch marks, and reduce redness after more aggressive laser treatments. Blue light LED treats acne by killing bacteria that live below the surface of the skin. White light reduces redness from inflammation. LED treatments typically take about 30 minutes and a series of treatments is recommended for best results.*
