Functional Medicine Screening Tests Atlanta
We test first, treat second — advanced diagnostics that find what other doctors miss
If you’re searching for functional medicine screening tests in Atlanta, you already know something is off — even if your regular doctor says everything looks “normal.” Standard lab work checks the basics. We go deeper. At Taylor Medical Group, we use advanced screening tools that measure brain function, cardiovascular health, body composition, stress response, food sensitivities, hormone levels, and heavy metal exposure — before we ever recommend a treatment plan.
That’s what functional medicine is about. We don’t guess. We test. Then we build your treatment around what the data actually shows. We serve patients from Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, Buckhead, Brookhaven, and across metro Atlanta.

Why We Test Differently
Your regular doctor runs a CBC, a metabolic panel, maybe a TSH. If everything falls inside the “normal” reference range, you’re told you’re fine. But you don’t feel fine. Sound familiar?
The problem is that standard lab work only catches disease once it’s already developed. Functional medicine screening catches dysfunction BEFORE it becomes disease. We’re looking for patterns, imbalances, and early warning signs that conventional testing isn’t designed to find.
Each of the screening tools below gives us a different window into your health — brain function, cardiovascular health, stress response, body composition, food reactions, hormones, and toxin exposure. Together, they give us the full picture we need to treat the root cause of your symptoms.
CNSVS — Neurocognitive Brain Testing
Can’t think straight? Losing words mid-sentence? Forgetting things that used to come easily? CNSVS (Central Nervous System Vital Signs) is a computerized neurocognitive assessment that measures how well your brain is actually working — not how you think it’s working.
The test evaluates memory, processing speed, reaction time, attention, cognitive flexibility, and executive function. It takes about 30 minutes and gives us an objective baseline of your brain performance. We use it to:
Identify cognitive decline early — before it becomes a bigger problem. If your scores are dropping, we can intervene with treatments like NAD+ IV therapy, hormone optimization, and nutritional support.
Track treatment progress — we retest periodically to see if treatments like ketamine therapy, NAD+, or hormone replacement are actually improving your brain function. No guessing.
Connect brain fog to root causes — heavy metal exposure, thyroid dysfunction, hormone decline, and chronic inflammation all show up as cognitive changes. CNSVS gives us the data to connect those dots.
DPA — Digital Pulsewave Analysis
Heart disease is the #1 killer in the United States — and it’s often silent until it’s too late. A standard blood pressure check doesn’t tell you what’s actually happening inside your arteries. DPA (Digital Pulsewave Analysis) does.
This non-invasive test uses a fingertip sensor to analyze the shape of your pulse wave as blood moves through your arteries. From that data, we can assess:
Arterial
Stiffness — how flexible or hardened your arteries are
Vascular
Age — is your cardiovascular system aging faster than you are?
Cardiac
Output — how efficiently your heart is pumping blood
This is especially useful for patients with a family history of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, or heavy metal exposure. We also use DPA to track cardiovascular improvement during chelation therapy. The test takes just a few minutes and is completely painless.
HRV — Heart Rate Variability Testing
Your heart doesn’t beat like a metronome — and it shouldn’t. Healthy hearts have natural variation between each beat. That variation is called Heart Rate Variability (HRV), and it’s one of the best indicators of how well your autonomic nervous system is functioning.
High HRV = your body adapts well to stress. Low HRV = your body is stuck in fight-or-flight mode and can’t recover properly.
We use HRV testing to evaluate:
Autonomic Nervous System Balance — Is your body stuck in sympathetic (stress) mode? Or is your parasympathetic (rest and repair) system working? This directly affects sleep, digestion, anxiety, blood pressure, and energy.
Adrenal Fatigue & Chronic Stress — If your HRV is consistently low, your stress response system is burned out. This aligns with what we see on cortisol testing and helps guide treatment for adrenal fatigue.
Treatment Monitoring — HRV improves as your nervous system heals. We retest to confirm that treatments like hormone therapy, IV therapy, and lifestyle changes are actually working.
BIA — Body Composition Analysis
Your bathroom scale is lying to you. It tells you how much you weigh — but it doesn’t tell you what that weight is made of. BIA (Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis) breaks your body weight down into what actually matters: fat mass, lean muscle mass, water content, and metabolic rate.
This is critical for anyone on a medical weight loss program because you need to know you’re losing FAT — not muscle. Patients on semaglutide or tirzepatide especially need this monitoring.
BIA gives us:
Body Fat %
More meaningful than BMI
Lean Muscle Mass
Are you losing muscle or fat?
How many calories you burn at rest
Hydration Status
Intracellular vs extracellular water
The test takes under 5 minutes, is painless, and gives us data that a scale or BMI calculator never could. We retest regularly to track your progress.
Food Allergy & Sensitivity Testing
Bloating after meals. Skin breakouts you can’t explain. Joint pain that comes and goes. Brain fog. Fatigue. These symptoms often have one thing in common — a food your body is reacting to that you haven’t identified yet.
Traditional skin prick testing only catches immediate IgE reactions — the obvious ones like hives and throat swelling. It misses the delayed reactions that show up hours or even days later. Those delayed IgG reactions are what cause most of the chronic symptoms people live with for years without answers.
We use Meridian Valley Laboratory’s FoodSafe panel — a blood-based test that measures IgG4 antibodies to up to 190 foods using the ELISA method. Meridian Valley pioneered food sensitivity testing over 40 years ago and remains the gold standard in the field. The test also includes a Candida screen, since Candida overgrowth mimics food sensitivity symptoms almost exactly.
What we test: Up to 190 foods across all major categories — dairy, grains, meats, seafood, fruits, vegetables, nuts, spices, and more. Each food is reported as low, moderate, or high reactivity so we know exactly which foods to eliminate and which are safe.
Why it matters: Hidden food sensitivities drive chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation drives weight gain, autoimmune flare-ups, gut problems, skin issues, fatigue, and brain fog. Find the foods, remove them, and the inflammation drops — often dramatically.
Salivary Hormone Testing
Blood tests measure the total amount of hormone in your blood — but most of that hormone is bound to proteins and unavailable to your cells. Salivary testing measures the FREE, bioavailable hormones — the ones actually doing the work in your body. That’s a very different number, and it tells a very different story.
We use salivary testing to evaluate estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, and cortisol. It’s especially useful for patients on bioidentical hormone therapy because we can see exactly how much hormone is reaching your tissues — not just how much is floating in your bloodstream. For cortisol, we can test multiple times throughout the day to map your adrenal rhythm, which is impossible with a single blood draw.
Heavy Metal Testing
Lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium, aluminum — these metals accumulate in your body over a lifetime from dental fillings, contaminated water, certain foods, cosmetics, and environmental exposure. They’re linked to thyroid dysfunction, cognitive decline, cardiovascular disease, kidney damage, autoimmune conditions, and chronic fatigue.
We test heavy metal levels through urine and blood analysis. If your levels are elevated, we use chelation IV therapy to safely remove the metals from your body. We retest after treatment to confirm the metals are coming out. Many patients are shocked to discover how much lead or mercury has been quietly accumulating in their system for years.
Why Functional Medicine Screening Tests Matter
Here’s the difference between conventional medicine and what we do:
Conventional Approach
Wait until you’re sick
Run basic labs
If labs are “normal,” send you home
Treat symptoms with medication
Our Approach
Screen before symptoms escalate
Run advanced diagnostics
Find dysfunction before disease
Treat root causes naturally
Most of our patients come to us after years of being told “everything looks normal” by doctors who only ran basic panels. When we run the right tests, we almost always find something that explains their symptoms — and something we can treat.
