Counseling Services Atlanta
If you’re looking for counseling services in Atlanta that go beyond talk therapy alone — you’re in the right place. At Taylor Medical Group, our counseling program combines traditional therapy with medical insight. That means we don’t just listen to your symptoms — we look for the physical causes behind them too.
Depression doesn’t always start in the mind. Anxiety doesn’t always start with stress. Sometimes it’s a hormone imbalance, a thyroid problem, a nutrient deficiency, or chronic inflammation causing the way you feel. Our approach connects the dots between your emotional health and your physical health — so you actually get better, not just managed.
We offer individual counseling, couples counseling, and family counseling at our Sandy Springs office, serving patients from Dunwoody, Buckhead, Brookhaven, and across metro Atlanta.

Our Approach to Counseling
Most counseling practices focus only on the emotional and psychological side of mental health. That’s important — but it’s only half the picture.
At Taylor Medical Group, Dr. Ava Bell-Taylor is both a psychiatrist trained at Emory University and a holistic medicine doctor. That means when you come in feeling anxious, depressed, or overwhelmed, we don’t just ask “what’s going on in your life?” We also ask “what’s going on in your body?”
We may check your hormones, thyroid, cortisol levels, vitamin D, B12, iron, and other markers that directly affect mood, energy, and mental clarity. If something is off physically, we address it alongside your counseling — because no amount of talk therapy will fix a thyroid problem, and no medication will fix a relationship issue. You need the right tool for the right problem.

What Makes Our Counseling Different
There are hundreds of counseling practices in Atlanta. Here’s why ours is different:
We Look at the Whole Person — A therapist who only does talk therapy can help you cope. But if your depression is partly caused by low thyroid or your anxiety is driven by a cortisol imbalance, coping strategies alone won’t fix it. We find the root cause and treat it.
Medical + Emotional Under One Roof — Need hormone testing? IV therapy for nutrient deficiencies? A medication evaluation? You don’t need to go to three different offices. Everything happens here.
Psychiatry-Trained Doctor — Dr. Bell-Taylor completed her residency at Emory University School of Medicine. She can prescribe medication when necessary, order lab work, and provide therapy — not every counseling practice has a physician who can do all three.
Integrative Tools — Beyond traditional counseling, we offer mind-body practices including mindfulness, breathwork, hypnotherapy, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), and guided meditation. For treatment-resistant depression, we also offer ketamine therapy and NAD IV therapy for brain health.
What to Expect at Your First Visit
A Real Conversation — Your first session is about getting to know you. We talk about what brought you in, what’s been going on, and what you’re hoping to change. No judgment, no rushing.
Health Screening — If your symptoms suggest a possible physical cause, we may recommend lab work. Things like thyroid panels, hormone levels, vitamin deficiencies, and cortisol testing can reveal issues that mimic or worsen mental health symptoms.
A Personalized Plan — Based on your conversation and any test results, we create a treatment plan that might include regular counseling sessions, lifestyle changes, nutritional support, hormone balancing, or medication if appropriate. It’s built around YOU — not a one-size-fits-all protocol.
Ongoing Support — Counseling isn’t a one-and-done thing. We meet regularly, track your progress, adjust your plan as needed, and make sure you’re actually feeling better — not just talking about feeling better.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is this different from seeing a regular therapist?
Most therapists provide talk therapy only. We provide counseling PLUS medical evaluation. If your mood issues have a physical component — hormones, thyroid, nutrient levels — we can identify and treat it. A regular therapist would need to refer you out for that. Here it’s all in one place.
Do I need lab work to start counseling?
No. Lab work is recommended when your symptoms suggest a possible physical cause, but it’s not required. We’ll discuss it during your first visit and you decide what feels right.
How often are sessions?
That depends on your needs. Most patients start with weekly sessions and move to biweekly as they feel better. Some prefer every other week from the start. We work with your schedule.
Can you prescribe medication?
Yes. Dr. Bell-Taylor is a licensed physician and can prescribe psychiatric medications when appropriate. But medication is never the first or only option — it’s part of a bigger plan that includes counseling, lifestyle changes, and addressing any underlying health issues.
What’s the difference between counseling and integrative psychiatry?
Our counseling services focus on therapy sessions — individual, couples, or family. Integrative psychiatry is our broader mental health program that includes counseling plus advanced treatments like ketamine IV therapy, NAD therapy, brain health testing, and more intensive psychiatric care.
How much does counseling cost?
